Pictures Painting

The middle photo is one of my favourites as it reminds me of how close I came to dying. I was skeletal - look at my flimsy arms - and I was beyond happy to be in the same world as my beautiful Katiebells, still.

I know I'm a fine specimen of a man - and I know you think that too - sure, come on, you just have to look at the photos. I'm kidding, of course, and photos for me now are an indicator as to what might be going on inside my body, although when I was at my fittest and finest having lived for four years in my car at the end of the summer of 2019 I picked up the virus that almost killed me. So, I should take back what I said about photos being indicators.

A couple of years ago I went for to have a swim in Blackrock with a pal of mine. It was just before I got sick. There had been a problem with a nearby sewage processing plant and we couldn't get into the Irish Sea. I was delighted because I imagined the water was too cold. My pal then told me about Wim Hof - the Iceman, and about how cold water was very good for you. The next day I tried to have a cold shower in the gym but stopped almost immediately coz I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Now, I'm having two cold showers a day. They are horrific for the first few seconds, a bit less horrific for the next minute and by the time three minutes have passed the water doesn't feel cold. I watched a Youtube clip of Wim and he said, 'A cold shower a day, keeps the doctor away.'

I hope he's right.

It's just turned midnight so it's Day 29 of the Forty Day Challenge.

Cheers,

Michael
