Grafton St.

I'm starting my third week in my new apartment. It's in a renovated old Georgian building. Can a building be rejuvenated? My apartment is modern, everything is brand new, the water can be heated for an hour and the top of the range immersion system keeps it hot for four days; for the first two I have to be careful not to scald myself.

Location, location, location. It's Dublin 8, South Circular Road - the nicer end - and its proximity to so many wonderful places is incredible.

I was feeling good as I strolled towards Grafton St. at 6.30 this morning. It didn't take long for my feeling of contentment to turn to guilt.

I was never homeless. I never considered myself as homeless. Others did. It was as if others needed to brand me, put me in a box. I had a roof over my head; a car roof is a roof. The person in this photo is homeless. A small person. It was impossible to tell if it was a man or a woman. Shoes removed for a little extra comfort.

I'm out of words.
